Description
On the way home we stopped to take pictures. Then I decided it was what I wanted to paint for the plein air competition coming up. So, even tho it was a blustery day, I drove all the way out to the Temple grounds after getting my canvas stamped, and set up to paint. There was a wedding photoshoot going on, and wind, sleet, cole, and then my palette flew off the easel and landed upside down on the cold icy cement. Sooo cold, so frustrated. I hurriedly packed up, loaded up my car, and headed home, and it wasn't until the next day I discovered I must have left my canvas in the parking garage. I live an hour and a half away from the Provo City Center Temple. I got on Facebook and told my story. A former art student responded to my post, and said her uncle worked at the Temple, so she had him check the lost and found and wa-la! I got it back! Of course, I didn't have much time to finish it for the plein-air competition, but I did what I could and turned it in unfinished. It didn't win anything, but it looked kind of cool. Then when I brought it home and tried to finish it I decided I needed to draw the entire image first. It took me 2 years to actually complete the drawing. (With many other projects in between.) Then there were too many things to correct so I started over...and this is the finished painting. The entire process took me so long I'm wondering if I will ever tackle another Temple painting...whew!!!
